rvvind…

The recent trip to India was more than what I expected it to be. I figured it would be a little intense in comparison to the laid-back lifestyle of Iowa City - but never fathomed it to be like an F-1 race. The amount of traveling I did took me by surprise - it was almost like I wanted to really feel every bit of my time there. Of course my dad and mom weren’t exactly elated by my approach towards the trip (as I was hardly around) - but I’m hoping that it’s all good. Not that any of you would care about my travel itinerary - but I’m posting it for two reasons
1. Those who might have an iota of care might find it useful.
2. If you care reading this then you are probably pretty chilled anyway - so you won’t care :)

Iowa City –> Chennai –> Bangalore –> Tiruchirapalli –> Karaikudi –> Chennai –> Kozhikode –> Chennai –> Iowa City. Managed to do this between 25th Dec 07 to Jan 17th 08.

Chennai skies

This was taken in a Srilankan airlines flight bound to Chennai, India from Colombo, Srilanka. The images below are from a recent trip I made to India - to visit my parents and friends. What followed were some very exciting times photographically (there were the challenges of keeping in touch with loved ones - that’s a pandora’s box). The flight from Iowa City to Chennai was a grueling 27 hours - and what sucked even more was I wanted to get a seat adjoining the window but didn’t until the last leg of the air journey (I thanked all the gods in the whole damn universe for the favor).

one more rainy day…
The rainy evenings in Sunshine capital of the universe were a welcome sight. One of my favorite spots in my home - the terrace. This shot was made when it began to pour. I miss pouring rains - all you get is drizzly rains in Iowa City, now what’s up with that? “:|”

And one shone through…
A lazy morning in Chennai is all one needs for an amazing start to their “sit around and do nothing” days. Filter coffee, “The Hindu“, loads of sunshine…simple heaven.

Temple Protectors
This was shot in Karaikudi - a village town in TamilNadu. The whole trip to Karaikudi and back was a sheer delight. Some of the temple architecture is simply spellbinding - a lot of it don’t get enough maintenance done though. I have to thank the person who drove me around the place (I’m terrible with names :/) - he had amazing knowledge about the place.

Gopuram
The sun was scorching - so much so that we could barely look skywards. A brief respite cloud respite is all I could get to manage this shot. I think I may have pissed a few priests off when I was shooting outside the temple.

Parapet
This was shot in a temple which was in ruins. The most fascinating part about this temple was the natural light inlets. These structures were built with utmost precision in relation to the sun’s position. Various key areas of the temple are illuminated at various times during the day - making this place an amazing; one-of-a-kind sanctum.

Morning web
The mornings in karaikudi were a unique experience on their own terms. Looking at the rice and paddy fields bathing in the morning sunshine - I would have died a happy man.
