The Old Capitol building is in Iowa City, IA. The monument is one of the most prominent symbolic representation of The University of Iowa. The Old Capitol Building housed almost the entire university from 1857 to 1863. As the school grew, the Old Capitol remained the focal point of the university, serving as a library, chapel, and armory, and providing space for classrooms and offices.

One of the most dynamic subjects I’ve come across. Never seen this one off-color.

This shot was taken recently. Spring had just arrived and the cloud formation in the evenings were simply surreal. I’m glad I made that trip downtown in spite of the chilling cold weather.

Smudgy Lens
This was taken in Fall ‘07. This is one of my earliest pictures of Old Capitol. There was a brief patch of cold wind which smudged my lens.

Capitol perspective
I am a little partial to my 18-55mm stock lens. It’s got to do with my recent love for the smaller focal lengths on expanses and a little bit of sentiment for my stock(after all it’s my first lens). So this time I forced myself to use my 55-200mm VR lens that I use for mid-range and some close-ups on a subject as expansive as the Old Capitol. Not sure how well it turned out - maybe I’ll try it again some time soon - before I graduate.
